Five Ways – Sept 21

September 24, 2021

We lost two Oblates this past week, Fr. Jim Deegan, O.M.I., who died in MN from covid complications on Sept. 20 at age 77, and Fr. Terry O’Connell, O.M.I., who
died in MA from stroke effects, Sept. 23, at age 71. Your prayers for them and their families are most welcome.

The Season of Creation, which began Sept. 1, ends on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Oct. 4. The website www.seasonofcreation.org . gives much information on the growing importance of this time. You will find on the website the first ever statement by Pope Francis, and the Patriarch of Constantinople, representing all the Eastern Christians, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, representing Anglican/Episcopalians, and in a certain sense, all Protestants. You will also find there insights for each Sunday of this time. We are witnessing so many different Christian Churches work together from the ground up; the place of joint worship; the activity for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, and evangelism, as many young people who have never worked before with Christians, now see the need to work together.

May we each repair the harm done to our precious planet, and the growing number of the poor affected by climate change. So many Christians and even non-Christians respect the way St. Francis of Assisi cared for all of creation.

Many thanks to those who responded to the Five Ways e-mail of Sept. 9.

In Christ’s love,

Fr. Harry Winter, O.M.I
