As the oldest continual Oblate parish in the USA, Holy Angels Church, Buffalo, NY, established by the Oblates in 1851, has always been vitally interested in Christian Unity, for the sake of Evangelization.  See the following.  More Oblate connections in the weeks ahead.

"This photo, taken in 1998, shows  Bishop William Franklin, prior to his 2005 ordination as an Episcopal priest  with Father Harry Winter, O.M.I. and Bishop Franklin's father-in-law, Joseph Vircillo. We were at the home of Joe and his wife Caterina Vircillo for the traditional Christmas Eve Italian dinner. The Vircillos were members of  Fr. Winter's parish, St. Rose of Lima in Buffalo, NY.

Also at table but not in the photo was  Bishop Franklin's wife, Carmela Vircillo Franklin , a   scholar of the Latin Middle Ages,  who served as Director of the American Academy in Rome from 2005-10. During that time, her husband served as priest at several  Episcopal Churches  in Italy.  Bishop Franklin was elected to be Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York in 2010 and was consecrated as such on April 30, 2011.  The Franklin's were married in 1971. They have two adult daughters,  both baptized in the Episcopal Church .

Marriages between people raised in different Christian traditions and even between individuals of different faiths  are becoming increasingly frequent. Are we Oblates prepared to work with such leaders?"
